Tips from our professional photographers for successful vacation photos
he image is essential, even on vacation! 😄
The entire amap communication team - visual & digital content consultants & creators - wishes you a happy vacation!
2 of our photographers share their tips for taking great photos on vacation...
The importance of light
Simply use the natural and artificial light available at the time of shooting and play with it by positioning yourself correctly in relation to it. Master the sun! It's the most efficient light source available to everyone. If you can, shoot when the light is good, i.e. shortly after sunrise or shortly before sunset, when the sun is low in the sky and the shadows are long. As a general rule, always place the sun slightly behind your back to bring out your silhouette and obtain a more harmonious sky, revealing its colors.
Tip +: If you're photographing someone against the light to preserve the beauty of the background, dare to use the flash! It may sound strange, but the flash will be very useful for balancing the light, even in broad daylight.
Composition and framing
Composition is the art of arranging the various elements in a photo. Choosing the position of elements helps guide the eye. Identify the alignments in your frame and place them in the center of the image. For movement, leave a little space in front of the movement.
Don't hesitate to ask your subject to move... or move around, get down... if the subject is stationary. Watch out for severed heads and feet. Tighter frames start at the knees, and hair is only cut in a very close-up of the face.
Likewise, it's better to get up close than zoom in! If you can, do it, and you'll gain in image quality.
Tip +: Isolate your subject. In photography, more is often the enemy of good. Keep it simple and remove all extraneous elements from the frame.
Take some time to post-process your photos
To restore and enhance what you saw on your vacation, post-processing allows you to correct minor problems and give your photos a new punch. You can adjust brightness, correct colors and accentuate sharpness.
For the more experienced, certain software or applications allow you to work selectively on certain parts of the image.
Simplicity is key!
Finally, always be ready, be creative, anticipate movements and remember that a beautiful photo is often simple and uncluttered.
